Recently, the inauguration ceremony for the Universiti Putra Malaysia China Satellite Campus building was held at the Xiamen University Pingtan Research Institute, marking the official launch of the university's China Satellite Campus series of projects. According to reports, the aforementioned project is an offshore research and teaching support initiative based in Pingtan, aimed at serving as Universiti Putra Malaysia's China-based postgraduate research and training center, undergraduate bridging program center, research incubation center, and alumni service center, among other functions. It seeks to advance China-Malaysia higher education research under the Belt and Road Initiative and address the needs for student exchanges, faculty exchanges, and research project collaborations between the two countries.

“In the future, we hope to conduct academic research, innovative cooperation, and talent development projects through the satellite campus, building a sustainable industry-academia-research collaboration ecosystem to create long-term value for industry development and social progress,” said Ismi Arif Ismail, Vice Chancellor of Universiti Putra Malaysia. Currently, Pingtan is actively embracing the digital economy trend, having already established exploratory practices in areas such as data customs and cross-border data transactions. This forward-looking strategy has caught the attention of Universiti Putra Malaysia, which has expressed strong interest in Pingtan's computing resources, particularly the archive and big data center currently under construction, with clear intentions for collaboration. “We eagerly anticipate that Pingtan and Universiti Putra Malaysia will jointly establish a collaborative platform to effectively integrate resources from all parties, jointly promote academic exchanges and project implementation in areas such as marine resource development and island economy research between China and Malaysia, and inject new momentum into the high-quality development of the regional marine industry,” “ Lin Fan, Executive Director of the Pingtan Research Institute of Xiamen University, introduced. On the same day, a series of activities were held, including the unveiling ceremony of the Joint Laboratory for Digital Economy and Business Intelligence Research and the ”Belt and Road" China (Pingtan) and Malaysia Industry-Academia-Research Cooperation Symposium.
